Alfa Romeo Giulietta features the new map navigator integrated with TMC Pro – and real-time information on traffic – which, tank to its central position, in the upper side of the dashboard, allows the driver to see the itinerary and mechanic function parameters without taking its eyes off the road. The new navigator is integrated with the Alfa Romeo DNA selector and provides information on the parameters connected to the three different settings. In Dynamic mode the Dynamic Display has a dedicated split-screen display, one featuring information on the turbo pressure (bar), and the percentage of utilization of maximum power, and the other displaying accelerometer indicating lateral and longitudinal acceleration (measured in Gs) reached during the trip. Giulietta also offers the chance to enjoy the innovative portable Blue&Me Tom Tom navigator: technological, practical, and perfectly safe also in case of impact. Wholly integrated with the infotainment system, the navigator is extractable by simply pushing a release button, and operates through a practical 4,3” color touch screen that allows connection with phone and USB port devices. In addition to maps of Europe (45 countries featured), the Tom-Tom also features the Fuel Efficiency function, a software that monitors the driving style, offering suggestions on how to curb fuel consumptions and emissions. Giulietta can also be customized with the BOSE HI-FI system, with radio, CD-MP3 reader, double tuner and double antenna, for a driving experience involving every sense.
A standard feature on all Giulietta models, the electro-hydraulic Dual Pinion shift makes for a great driving experience. Its name comes from the presence of two Pinions: the first is connected to the shift rod and fastened directly onto the steering gearbox rack, with no additional filters between the wheels and the driver’s hands. This to obtain an enhanced driving experience and truly “feel” the wheels on the steering wheel. The second Pinion, connected to the electric actuator (placed in the engine bay), eliminates the risk of impact with the driver’s knees, and it’s also fastened directly onto the rack, providing improved support to the driver in all maneuvers. All this is enhanced by Alfa Romeo’s DNA, the device that customizes Giulietta’s behavior to different driving styles or road conditions, by choosing one of three settings: Dynamic, Normal, or All Weather. To have everything under control at all times
Until now reserved to race cars, and already tested on Alfa MiTo, Giulietta’s Alfa Romeo DNA system acts on the engine, steering gear, suspensions and gear shift (automatic when installed), according to three different behaviors based on conditions or the driving style chosen: sportive (Dynamic), city drive (Normal), or low-adhesion conditions (All Weather). The device allows to comfortably choose one of the three functions by simply shifting the selector positioned by the gearshift lever. For those who desire a more comfortable drive, on Normal mode the single components of the Alfa Romeo DNA system are in the “normal” setting: brilliant engine, discreet Vehicle Dynamic Control, and DST preventing oversteering. Also, the Normal mode offers suggestions on when to shift gear through the Gear Shift Indicator, which allows reduced fuel consumption and emissions, perfect for driving in the city. For those who prefer a more active experience, just shift the lever to Dynamic: Alfa Romeo DNA activates the Q2 Electronic system, lessening the feeling of assisted steering, for an enhanced sporting experience and impeccable control. Also, in this mode, Giulietta features for the first time the new Pre-Fill function, which provides an enhanced braking performance, by adding preventive pressure onto the braking system in case of emergency. On low adherence surfaces the driver can select the All Weather mode, tightening the traction control effect, and strengthening the mu-split sensitivity (particularly convenient when the car runs on surfaces with varying adherence, like, for example, with two wheels on ice and two on asphalt). Whether you choose city drives, sportive runs, or safety in all conditions, Alfa Romeo DNA guarantees safety, comfort, and performance at the top of its class.
Giulietta’s architecture was designed to achieve maximum active safety thanks to its suspension system, Dual Pinion active steering, braking system, and overall dynamic balance. Maximum interaction between the systems governing the vehicle is also guaranteed through the Alfa Romeo DNA selector, controlling all the sophisticated electronic devices (VDC, Dual Pinion, Q2 differential, engine torque curve guaranteeing driving safety and Alfa Romeo-level performance. Particularly, electronic Q2 allows to maintain a trajectory coherent with the set steering angle, even at high speed or low adherence conditions, virtually eliminating understeering and providing greater safety in all conditions. The Dynamic Steering Torque (DST) system further enhances performance, providing a steering torque feed-back, helping the driver with the correct execution of a critical maneuver. And the new LED projectors, with instant switch-on times (for example, when applying the brakes), further enhancing safety. Giulietta also features for the first time the Pre-Fill system, a new function activated in the Dynamic mode of DNA. When the control unit recognizes a dangerous condition, requiring the vehicle to come to a rapid stop, the system applies the brake a few instants before the driver pushes on the pedal, so as to limit the brake distance of the vehicle. As regards to passive safety, over 15.000 hours of calculation, 100 crash tests, 150 HyGe sled tests and over 100 tests on components and subsystems. In detail, the new third load line enhances the capacity of absorbing frontal energy and reduces inertial forces and cabin intrusions. Safety is further enhanced by 6 airbag standard on the entire line, three-point, double pre-tensioner seat belts; collapsible pedal group and column; second-generation anti-whiplash system, and Isofix attachment points.
Alfa Romeo Giulietta is ideal for those who want a compact car, without giving up comfort: 4.35 mt. long, 1.46 mt. tall, and 1.80 mt large, with great interior habitability, thanks to its generous 2.63 mt. wheel base and a fully usable trunk due to its regular shape. Its interiors, characterized by the refined attention to detail and high quality of its materials, represent the most evolved expression of Made in Italy. The feeling of weightlessness is expressed through light, sharp lines, and a dashboard spreading horizontally, where every control finds its ideal position thanks to evolved ergonomic research. Much attention is devoted to the comfort of its interiors. Noise reduction is ensured by lateral windows, 25% thicker, double sealing on doors, and noise-absorbing materials pre-installed on the engine firewall to optimize sound proofing of the cabin. At the same time, the cozy, anti-perspiration seats offer maximum comfort even during long journeys. Giulietta can also count on the Start&Stop system (standard on every engine, except for the 235 HP), through which the engine is temporarily stopped when standing (ex, at a red light), providing reduced fuel consumption and emissions – in full relax
The new Compact architecture of Alfa Romeo Giulietta marks a technical and technological leap from the past. Its compact, functional structure, as well as the materials used, take it to new excellence levels in terms of comfort, agility, and safety on board. The whole frame has been redesigned and renewed, as compared to the previous generation, adding power, reducing weight, and improving performance and strength. The light-weight of the frame translates into increased power (both in 0-100 km/h breakaway acceleration, as well as 40-80 km/h and 80/120 km/h running acceleration), and a sensible reduction of brake distance also thanks to the pre-fill system. Its Alfa Romeo character comes through in the dynamic drivability, made possible by sophisticated suspensions, Dual Pinion active steering, and the use of aluminum and high-strength steels. The Compact structure was also designed to integrate and highlight the different systems of the car, with particular attention to the three intelligent settings (Dynamic, Normal, and All Weather) available through the Alfa Romeo DNA selector. To express great agility under the most challenging driving conditions, but also habitability and comfort at the top of its class in everyday roads.
The exceptional handling and comfort of Alfa Romeo’s Giulietta owe much to its new suspensions system. In the front, McPherson strut suspensions have been re-elaborated to obtain maximum stability under lateral loads, and a reduction of weight by as much as 4 kg. compared to more traditional designs. Aluminum alloys are used for the struts, high-strength steels for arms and crossbars, and structural components have been optimized adding evident advantages to comfort and drivability. The rear suspensions utilize a sophisticated Multilink system, which, thanks to its aluminum arms, weights over 10 km less than a traditional Multilink. Its geometry guarantees comfort, roadholding, stability and safety in all conditions, while its compact size leaves ample room for a spacious boot: 350 liters, entirely usable. Alfa Romeo Giulietta comes in two different variations. Standard configuration offers the perfect balance between comfort and sportiness (Progression, Distinctive, Pack Premium). Sportive configuration offers dynamic and safe drivability (Pack Sport with 17’’ or 18’’ rims).
A distinctive sign of every Alfa Romeo, the front-end of the new Giulietta develops out of a trilobed shape, with a new and elegant reinterpretation of the traditional crest, inset in the front fender and suspended over the air intakes. The fearless look comes from its headlights, which use LED technology for day lights, with a positive impact on durability, fuel consumption, and emissions. The outline is fluid and dynamic, ribbed by a groove that starts off at the front headlight and covers the full side. The backdoor handles are hidden in the ribbing, in the best Alfa Romeo tradition, while special lateral windows reminiscent of coupé designs. The rear features a sporty style, with strong lines and horizontally aligned lights, suggesting the new Giulietta’s attitude, agile but with a tight hold of the road. Even in the interiors, the design gives a feeling of lightness, with fluid lines and a modern, lightweight dashboard characterized by exclusive materials, pleasant to touch and sight. Thanks to the evolved ergonomics of the interiors, the cozy seats and the controls placed in ideal, easy-to-reach positions, guarantee comfort and driving ease on every road.
The LED technology chosen for the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta has more than one advantage, compared to traditional lights: stronger light beams, extended durability, and faster switch-on times (for example, when applying the brakes), with greater advantages for safety and running costs. Also, its reduced fuel consumption has a positive impact on emissions. The projectors also integrate the Daytime Running Light function, already in compliance with a EU regulation that will be effective in 2012. As soon as the car is started, its LEDs, specifically created to guarantee maximum daytime visibility, automatically turn on, with reduced power intake and extremely long duration. The front projectors are available in two versions: with halogen lamps (standard) or bi-Xenon, AFS system (optional). The latter solution produces an even greater quality of the emitted light – both with full and low beams –, excellent performance in all atmospheric conditions, and a triple duration compared to halogen headlights. The AFS system allows also to point the headlights in the direction the car is turning into (up to 15 degree turns), guaranteeing maximum visibility and safety even in hairpin bends.
The Progession trim comes with Alfa Romeo DNA intelligent system standard in all models, front seats with anti-whiplash headrest, stereo system with dual tuner radio, 6 speakers, CD and MP3 reader. This generous equipment is furthered with the Distinctive trim with: 16’’ alloy rims, leather steering wheel with stereo controls, reconfigurable control panel, cruise control, bi-zone automatic air conditioning, fog lights, Competizione fabric seats and elegant chrome line for side windows. And for an even more elegant look and feel, different carbon fiber accessories are also available: rearview mirror caps, shift knob, dashboard tabs. Exclusively for the 235 HP 1750 TBi line, Giulietta comes in the Quadrifoglio Verde trim, including the Sport Pack and a lowered sports suspension, 17’’ or 18’’ rims, enhanced braking system with Alfa-red painted callipers, and interiors featuring leather and microfiber sports seats.
Performance and technology reach top levels in the new Alfa Romeo, thanks to a range of engines that represent the state of the art in terms of technology, power, and eco friendliness. The new Giulietta is available in 5 different Turbo engines: three gasoline (120 hp 1.4TB, and 170 hp 1.4TB MultiAir, 1750 TBi with direct injection), and two second-generation diesel Multijet (105 hp 1.6 JTDM, and 170 hp 2.0 JTDM). The brilliant 235 hp 1750 TBi features avant-guard technical solutions, such as direct gasoline injection, dual continuous variable valve timing, turbo compressor, and, especially, the revolutionary “scavenging” control system that eliminates turbolag. With record-setting performance levels, this is Alfa Romeo’s engine with the highest specific power (195 HP/I) in the history of the brand, featuring also extraordinary specific torque [VERIFICARE COPPIA in NN/L), best-in-class among the gasoline engines of its class. This engine series is coupled with the exclusive Quadrifoglio Verde trim, reminiscent of the legendary mark that competed and won on race circuits across the world.
Standard on all engines of Giulietta (except for the 235 HP 1750 Turbogas), the Start&Stop system controls the temporary turn off of the engine and its restart, when the vehicle is standing in neutral gear. As the gear is re-inserted the system immediately restarts the engine, ensuring immediate response of controls. The result is a cut down of fuel consumption and emissions of up to 10% and an abatement of noise and vibrations when standing. The Gear Shift Indicator (GSI) is a virtual “co-pilot”, discretely offering suggestions on how to use the engine most efficiently for a comfortable, smooth drive, and achieve fuel-saving habits. The GSI is always on when the Alfa Romeo DNA selector is positioned on Normal or All Weather, and through an indicator on the control panel, it can, for example, suggest to switch to a higher gear to let the engine run on a low-gasoline fuel mixture, or shift down to take advantage of the available torque.
